When we entered Gulleggið, KLAK's Golden Egg and Iceland's leading early-stage startup competition, HuddleHop was little more than a student idea and a stubborn belief that getting around Iceland could be cheaper, greener and more sociable. A few months later, we were standing among the Top 10 teams. We are still a little proud of that, and very grateful.
What Gulleggið actually gave us
It is easy to read competitions as being about the prize. For us, the real value was everything around it.
Pitching to experienced judges forced us to answer the hard questions early. Who is this really for, why now, and how does it stay honest as it grows? The feedback pushed us to keep on-demand rides and cost-shared carpools clearly separate, and to build verification and rider trust in from day one rather than later. And Iceland's startup scene, which is small, generous and fast-moving, welcomed us straight in.
Thank you
To KLAK and everyone behind Gulleggið, thank you for the platform and the candid feedback. Our thanks too to Hringiða, whose support helped HuddleHop take shape beyond the competition.
What's next
The recognition is a milestone, not a finish line. The rider web app is live across Iceland in English and Icelandic, native iOS and Android apps are in testing, and we are rolling out in-app payments carefully while starting with direct, community-friendly travel.
If you backed us along the way, thank you. And if you are just discovering HuddleHop, hop on and come along for the ride.
